Drug Induced Deaths (1999-2015)

This dataset was taken from WorldData, in which you can see the overall increase in drug induced deaths in the United States from 1999-2015. According to the CDC, there have been nearly 841,000 fatalities since 1999 that involved drug overdose deaths. A drug overdose occurs when an immense amount of drugs are taken, or mixed with other substances which causes a lack of oxygen to reach the brain and heart, eventually causing a stroke, heart-attack, or seizure. I chose this dataset for personal reasons, but mainly to show that drug overdoses occur too often in the US. Therefore indicating a lack of support for individuals with an addiciton or opiod-use disorder. Often times, a person forms an addiction due to prescripted medication. This indicates that the pharmaceutical industry as well as the healthcare system need to improve their mechanisms for prescribing addictive medication. There needs to be different types of therapy that do not involve addictive substances. This data is a clear representation of how the Drug Epidemic has worsen throughout the years. Which indicates that the accessibility of these drugs is very manageable
